In today's class, we learn three improv tasks: expansion, resistance, and staccato. Expansion involves extending beyond your usual range, taking up more space, and expanding your energy outwards. Resistance is the intentional opposition or counterforce applied by a dancer's body while doing a particular movement. This adds depth and strength to movement quality by creating tension. Staccato is characterized by short, distinct, and sharply separated movements, that match the music notes. It involves a deliberate and abrupt execution, creating a punctuated and rhythmic quality in the performance. And remember, you can always rewind and learn the three tasks at your own pace.
